Health insurance (Krankenversicherung)
German: Krankenversicherung
Reviewed by Sajid ur Rehman— MSc Physics candidate, University of MünsterLast updated 20 July 2026
Krankenversicherung (health insurance) is mandatory in Germany. Students and trainees usually take statutory public insurance (around €120–130/month for students), and proof of coverage is required both for the visa and to enrol or start training.
Why it matters for applicants from Pakistan, India & Bangladesh
It's a fixed monthly cost to budget for, and you need proof of it early — a missing insurance certificate can stall your visa or enrolment.
