Why we lead with Germany
Germany first — but not always
Both TFC founders moved to Germany to study, so it's the route we understand most deeply — public universities with little to no tuition, and a process we've personally been through. That's why it's our first recommendation for most students.
But "first recommendation" doesn't mean "only recommendation." If your field is stronger in the UK, if you need a one-year Master's instead of two, if a specific programme in France or Italy fits your background, or if Spain's lifestyle and cost of living matter more to you than saving on tuition — we'll tell you that plainly, and help you apply there instead.

Why students choose it
The UK's biggest draw is speed: most Master's degrees run just one year instead of two, so you're back in the job market — or starting the Graduate Route — a year sooner. Teaching is in English everywhere, and the university names carry weight with employers back home.
When it fits better than Germany
Fits better than Germany when you want a fast, English-taught Master's and are comfortable with UK tuition fees, or when your field (business, law, finance, media) is better represented at UK universities than German ones.

Why students choose it
French public universities charge modest fees set by the state, and the academic tradition runs deep — especially in engineering (the Grandes Écoles), business, fashion and the arts. A growing number of Master's programmes are taught fully in English, particularly in business schools.
When it fits better than Germany
Fits better than Germany when you've found a specific programme or Grandes École that matches your field, when you already have some French, or when a particular French institution's reputation matters more to you than tuition being free.
- Public university fees are low by European standards, though not as low as Germany's
- Strong for engineering, business and design — look at Grandes Écoles specifically
- Most Bachelor's are French-taught; English-taught options grow at Master's level
- Visa (VLS-TS) requires Campus France registration before you apply to universities

Italy
Why students choose it
Italy's public universities are genuinely affordable, and several — Bologna, Politecnico di Milano, Sapienza — carry real international standing, particularly in architecture, design, engineering and the arts. Cost of living outside Milan and Rome is lower than most of Western Europe.
When it fits better than Germany
Fits better than Germany when your field is architecture, design, fine arts or a specific programme Italy is known for, or when you want a lower cost of living than Germany's bigger cities without sacrificing academic reputation.
- Public tuition is often lower than the UK or France, sometimes income-scaled
- Well regarded for architecture, design, engineering and the arts
- English-taught Master's exist but are fewer than in the Netherlands or the Nordics
- Visa requires a pre-enrollment (pre-iscrizione) step before the student visa application

Why students choose it
Spain is the lifestyle choice — warmer climate, lower cost of living than Northern Europe, and a growing number of English-taught programmes in business, tourism and engineering, especially in Madrid and Barcelona. It's also a genuinely useful base if you want to build Spanish, spoken across most of Latin America too.
When it fits better than Germany
Fits better than Germany when quality of life and climate matter to your decision, when you're drawn to a Spanish-speaking career path, or when you want a lower-cost European base with a solid (not top-tier) academic outcome.
- Cost of living is noticeably lower than the UK, France or Germany's major cities
- English-taught Master's are growing fast but are still concentrated in a few cities
- Public tuition is low; private university fees can run high — check which you're applying to
- Student visa process runs through the Spanish consulate and requires proof of funds and health cover

Italy and France generally have the lowest public-university tuition of the four, with Spain close behind — though all three are still more expensive than Germany's largely tuition-free public system. The UK is the most expensive by tuition, but its one-year Master's can offset that by getting you into the job market a year sooner. Not necessarily. English-taught Master's programmes exist in all four countries, but the depth differs — the UK is English by default, while France, Italy and Spain have a smaller (though growing) pool of English-taught options concentrated in business, engineering and a handful of cities. If you're set on staying long-term, learning the local language will open more of the job market.
