CEFR levels (A1–C2)

German: Gemeinsamer Europäischer Referenzrahmen

Reviewed by Sajid ur RehmanLast updated 20 July 2026

CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) is the standard scale for language ability, from A1 (beginner) through B1/B2 (independent user) to C2 (mastery). German requirements are stated in CEFR: most Ausbildung roles need B1, healthcare needs B2, and German-taught degrees often need C1.

Why it matters for applicants from Pakistan, India & Bangladesh

Knowing your target CEFR level tells you how many months of study you need — it's the single biggest factor in your timeline.
