For a German Ausbildung you generally need a school-leaving certificate (around 10th grade / Matric-SSC is the usual minimum), German at B1 for most fields or B2 for healthcare, a signed training contract with an employer, and to be old enough to work (18 at the start is the norm). No university degree or APS certificate is required.

You cannot start without German. Most Ausbildung fields require at least B1, and healthcare roles like nursing and elderly care require B2. B1 is enough for IT, engineering, hospitality and logistics tracks, but not for patient-facing healthcare. Reaching the required level is usually the single biggest gap for international applicants.

There is no legal upper age limit for a German Ausbildung. You typically need to be 18 at the start; under 18 you'll need a guardian's consent and must meet youth-employment rules. Applicants aged 31–35 or over 35 are accepted but face more scrutiny, so a clear motivation and realistic plan matter more.

A signed contract also means your training salary usually counts toward proof of funds, often reducing or waiving the blocked account.
